Pleasant surprises await those who take the time to visit the village. The ‘Bruine Vloot’ spends the winter months in the marina. And those visiting around Ascension Day are rewarded with either the Nationale Sleepbootdagen (a tugboat festival) or Zwartsluis onder Zeil (a sailing festival). The museum in Sluuspoort exhibits a wealth of information on traditional crafts, reed, peat and birds.

Watersports village as a gateway

Zwartsluis is the ideal location for recreation and is all about watersports. No wonder, because the former ‘Fortresse Swartsluys’ is situated on the Meppelerdiep and the Zwarte Water and also has direct access to the lake districts of Overijssel and Friesland. It is sometimes called the gateway to the north.
