Rolling land and fields separated by hedgerows instead of ditches. Characteristic for the high land around the idyllic and rural village of Paasloo. A true place of pilgrimage for poets and lovers of poetry. They move towards the rustic cemetery. The last resting place of poet J.C. Bloem. ‘Bygone, bygone, O and eternally bygone’ is the epitaph on his grave. Next to the cemetery is one of the oldest churches in Overijssel, dating from 1336.

The story of the moraines and hedgerows.

Paasloo is an elongated village. It is about 7 metres above sea level on a push moraine that was formed during the Ice Age. As well as the natural moraine, there are hedgerows built by the inhabitants. Hedgerows are dikes made from soil, with thick shrubbery to keep the grazing cattle in, functioning as a sort of live barbed wire.
