The connection with the North
Situated at a crossroads of exploring the Weerribben-Wieden National Park on the one side and Friesland with its huge lakes on the other. There is a busy yet pleasant atmosphere here during the summer months. All waterway traffic passes the Ossenzijler bridge to and from the Frisian lakes. For centuries, it was an important intersection of waterways. The inhabitants lived off peat, just as those in the rest of the area. The cut peat was transported throughout the country from Ossenzijl. Now, the inhabitants mainly earn their living from reed cultivation and agriculture. The Buitencentrum (Outdoor Centre) is the perfect starting point for excursions in the stunning natural beauty of the National Park.
